Where Is Your Safe Place?
…Do nothing to these men, inasmuch as they have come under the SHELTER OF MY ROOF. But they said, “Stand aside.” Furthermore, they said, “This one came in as an alien, and already he is acting like a judge; now we will treat you worse than them.” So they pressed hard against Lot and came near to break the door. But the men reached out their hands and brought Lot INTO THE HOUSE AND SHUT THE DOOR.
Lots house not a shelter or a safe place. Lot lost his house because the Lord did not build it. The city was not a safe place. He lost his wife at the city because the Lord did not guard it. The mountain beyond Zoar was not a safe place. He lost his family in the mountains, because he looked to the mountain for a safe place and not to the Lord.
Unless the LORD builds the HOUSE,
They labor in vain who build it;
Unless the LORD guards the CITY,
The watchman keeps awake in vain.
I will lift up my eyes to the MOUNTAINS;
From where shall my help come?
My help comes from the LORD,
Who made heaven and earth.
What is your refuge? Who is your safe place?
Other refuge have I none,
Hangs my helpless soul on Thee;
Leave, oh, leave me not alone,
Still support and comfort me.
All my trust on Thee is stayed,
All my help from Thee I bring;
Cover my defenseless head
With the shadow of Thy wing.
Jesus, lover of my soul,
Let me to Thy bosom fly,
While the nearer waters roll,
While the tempest still is high:
Hide me, O my Savior, hide,
Till the storm of life is past;
Safe into the haven guide;
O receive my soul at last.
