Is Your Ship Sinking?
What keeps your head above water when you are overwhelmed?
When my spirit was overwhelmed within me,
you knew my path.
“Whelm” is a word we never use in English. It means to turn a boat over (and sink), so “overwhelm” means to turn over your life and almost sink you!
Think of your life as a small boat on a great stormy ocean. How do you feel? It is not a very safe feeling! When the psalmist feels he is drowning in life, he remembers that he is not living on a trackless ocean, but his life is on the path of God’s choosing and blessing. The waves and wind are driving him to a safe harbor. The arms of God are beneath him.
You too 🙂
Me too 🙂
======= Remember Jonah ==========
Jonah was overwhelmed! His spirit was overwhelmed because he was running from God. His body was overwhelmed because the water was over his head. What did Jonah do?
While I was fainting [overwhelmed] away, I remembered the LORD,
And my prayer came to You, Into Your holy temple.
